- Definition of biography
A biography is a text
that contains a person's journey. In the biographical text contains the
shortcomings, strengths and problems of the character being written. The
biographical text provides a chronology, where the story follows the time
sequentially. Biography also includes the setting of time, place, atmosphere,
characterizations. The biographical text is also a narrative retelling.
The purpose of the biography text is that it is hoped that the reader can make the advantages of the character an example for many people. And the reader can take lessons from the life history of the character.

- Structure of biographical text
1. Orientation
The first part is an
initial introduction to the characters and background. The orientation section
is also an introduction before going into a more detailed discussion.
2. Important events or
problems
This section contains
how the characters experience and deal with problems. Sorted by chronological
order. These events include interesting and impressive things the characters
experience to achieve their goals.
3. Reorientation
This section contains
conclusions experienced by the character based on a series of events that have
been experienced by the character. Reorientation is optional in the
biography text.
- Language Rules
1. Using third-person
singular pronouns, such as: he, she, or it.
2. Many use action verbs
to describe physical events or actions carried out by characters. Such as:
reading, studying, walking etc.
3. Use descriptive
sentences for a more detailed explanation.
4. Many use passive
verbs, such as: given, assigned etc.
5. Use a lot of psychic
verbs, such as: approve, love, etc.
6. Using conjunctions.
Example Biography Text
B.J. Habibie is a role model and a source of pride for many people in Indonesia. He is the third President of the Republic of Indonesia. His full name and title are Prof. DR (HC). Ing. Dr. Sc. multi. Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie. He was born in Pare-Pare, South Sulawesi, on June 25, 1936. He is the fourth of eight children, the couple Alwi Abdul Jalil Habibie and RA. Tuti Marini Puspowardojo. Habibie married Hasri Ainun Habibie on May 12, 1962 and they have two sons, Ilham Akbar and Thareq Kemal.
Habibie has been
orphaned since his father died on September 3, 1950 due to a heart attack.
After his father died, his mother sold his house and vehicle and then moved to
Bandung with his children. His mother worked hard to support the lives of her
children. In Indonesia, Habibie was Minister of State for Research and
Technology/Head of BPPT for 20 years, chairman of the Indonesian Muslim
Intellectuals Association (ICMI), led a strategic BUMN company, was elected
Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia and became the 3rd President of
Indonesia after Suharto stepped down in 1998. During his tenure Habibie, there
was a referendum in East Timor, until finally East Timor separated itself from
Indonesia. In his brief tenure, B.J. Habibie has laid the foundation for
democratic life and regional unity in Indonesia with the passing of the law on
regional autonomy and the law on political parties, the law on elections and
the law on the composition of the positions of the DPR/MPR.
Descending from his position as President, Habibie returned to Germany with his family. In 2010, Ainun died of cancer. As a therapy for the loss of a loved one, Habibie wrote about a love story with Ainun, which was later recorded under the title "Ainun and Habibie".
