Contrast is an activity to compare two objects. Contrast focuses on the differences between two objects rather than the similarities between the two objects.

The purpose of contrasting is to compare more than one object to get a clearer and more detailed comparison.

Longan and Lanseh

Contrast

1. Lanseh  has thick skin while longan has skin

2. Lanseh has a rough skin texture, while longan is fluffy

3. Lanseh has a sweet and slightly sour taste while longan has a very sweet taste

  • Contrast conjunction

Contrast conjunction is a conjunction that connects two contradictory sentences. This means that the relationship between one sentence and the next sentence is contradictory. Common conjunctions used in English are though, although, even though, even, if, unless, yet, but, however, despite, in spite of, whereas, nevertheless, notwithstanding.

1. Contrast conjunction though

The use of though in English is more towards English conversation. The conjunction though can be placed at the beginning, middle or end of a sentence.

Ex : She will try though she may fail.

2. Contrast conjunction although and even though

The use of although is usually for formal things. While even though emphasizes the facts that have occurred or are currently happening.

Ex : She ate all of the food although she didn't like it

        Even though he is very angry , he is still smiling

3. Contrast conjunction even if

Even if emphasizes something that hasn't happened yet.

Ex : Even if he is very angry, I think he will smile

4. Contrast conjunction yet and but

Ex : I like soup, but my sister prefers meat ball

        It rained a lot yesterday, yet we enjoyed our holiday

5. Contrast conjunctions nevertheless

Finally, we close with the use of Conjunction nevertheless which is more often used at the beginning of a sentence. But it can also be placed in the middle or at the end of the sentence.

Ex : she is often rude to me. I like him, nevertheless.
